CONGRESSMAN GREG WALDEN TO TOUR
DOGS FOR THE DEAF
Friday, May 16, 2008, Congressman Greg Walden will tour Dogs for the Deaf in Central Point, Oregon. He is scheduled to arrive at Dogs for the Deaf, 10175 Wheeler Road, Central Point at 2:45 p.m.
Dogs for the Deaf is the oldest and largest Hearing Dog program in the U. S., and is headquartered in Central Point, OR. Walden will tour the training facility and watch an actual training session with one of the dogs currently in training.
Congressman Walden shares a deep concern and interest for the Americans with Disabilities Act regulations and the issues businesses and individuals face everyday regarding public access of Assistance Animals. There is a great deal of confusion regarding accessibility of Assistance Animals and what qualifies an animal for public access rights as was recently illustrated in a column in the MAIL TRIBUNE.
Walden will be discussing these issues and possible actions that may be taken with Robin Dickson, Pres./CEO of Dogs for the Deaf.
Dogs for the Deaf rescues dogs from shelters in California, Oregon, and Washington. The dogs are professionally trained for 5-6 months and then are placed nationwide, free of charge, nationwide with people with hearing loss and other challenges.
