How to Submit Stories to LocalsGuide
on 08/22/07 10:19 AM

At LocalsGuide Mission Control, we receive a load of calls, emails and letters asking us how to submit stories for possible inclusion in the LocalsGuide publication. Those of you who have already asked the submission question are probably already aware of our answer: Post it on the site!

That's right, post it on the site!

We like to think of our website as the dance floor. We've been out here dancing, and some active members have been moving to the groove, too. Yet many of you are still sitting, watching and wishing. Don't be a wallflower; come out and dance, dance, dance!

Your contributions are your dance moves. Catch our attention with some flash and originality. Make it fun and engaging! Get us moving to your groove.

Do the Salsa, Tango, Foxtrot, Drunkman, Bounce, Cabbage Roll, Robot, Freeflow, Trance...

The style's up to you, but remember that an original approach, interesting angles and  engaging presentation will catch our attention most easily and up your chance to see your stories in print.

What are waiting for? Show us your moves! Post a story today.

August Story Leads
on 07/03/07 11:57 AM

Here are a few story leads for anyone who would like to pursue them:

  • Shields' Neighbor Carol is a very interesting elderly woman who has led a full life traveling and living life as a Jazz musician. She has some great stories to tell and could lead to a great interview.
  • An Ashland Resident called in to report that an elderly neighbor weeds the neighborhood for free. She would like a LocalsGuide member to tag team an interview with her.
  • A guy in Ashland has a cool dog house for his dog Merlin. We need someone to take some photos and ask Merlin’s owner for the story behind Merlin’s dog house.
  • Anyone going to multiple cook-outs this Fourth of July? We would like to read about your adventures.
  • Shuttle Bug of Ashland meets hundreds of tourists each month. We need a member to go on a ride-along to help interview and podcast what these tourists are feeding back about Southern Oregon.
  • Ever see those bi-pedal covered bikes in front of the Lithia Springs Hotel? We can set you up to interview the guy who makes them: Mark Anthony.
And this is just a start. If you have an idea for a story, post it below. Want help or seeking someone to collaborate on a story with you? Look around on the site for a likely suspect, contact The_Associate or post your needs below as a comment.

Hurry and call your lead today! The deadline for the August issue is just around the corner.

The Fall Will Probably...
on 06/23/07 10:57 AM

Movie buffs and general media junkies know all too well the classic scene from "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid" as the two stand trapped at the top of a cliff, with a river flowing far below them. Sundance looks at Butch and says,"I can't swim." Butch replies,"What you crazy, the fall will probably kill you." What you may not know is that the cliff is part of Hellgate Canyon and the river they jump into is the Rogue River.

For those unfamiliar with the scene, check out this somewhat irritating remix of the classic scene on YouTube.
