The Meantime Library
on 05/23/07 11:19 AM

Bummed out by the failure of 15-75? Or, maybe you aren’t, but you still miss the library? Well, in the meantime, here in Ashland we have an alternative. It is called the Ashland Media Exchange. AME works just like any other library…but there is one major difference: if you find something you like, take it! … as in, for good. It is yours to keep at absolutely no cost. AME carries books, movies and music; and everything you see on the shelves is up for grabs.

How is this possible? Well, AME also asks for donations of books, DVDs and CDs from the public. You are not required to donate to take, however, these are two totally separate transactions. Of the items donated, approximately 1% are sold online by AME, the other 99% are given away back into the community. (Oh by the way… they also have free wi-fi and a “no whispering” policy. So feel free to talk at normal volume)!

So go ahead, check out AME…and don’t worry about late fees. Come back again whenever you’d like.

Go Ahead . . . Bliss Out!
on 03/19/07 02:40 PM

Slang. bliss out,

a. to experience bliss or euphoria

b. to cause to become blissful or euphoric

This expression acts as the framework behind Southern Oregon’s new organic biscotti company, Bliss Out Biscotti. Founded by Luke & Sarah Noffke in 2007, Bliss Out Biscotti seeks to provide conscious, organic baked good options to Southern Oregon.

We started with an inspiration and an idea. Although Luke had been baking biscotti for awhile (after being influenced by a visit to Ashland some time earlier), the real push behind Bliss Out came after a conversation with Diana, the tasting room manager over at Rising Sun Farms. We had mentioned that I baked biscotti and she told us that the closest solely-biscotti business was in Bend. In addition, it seemed that no other biscotti producer that we knew of used 100% organic ingredients (something we knew we wanted to be able to do). So, we talked it over, did a little research, and started Bliss Out.

Another thing that we think makes us unique is that we have three lines of biscotti: one for coffee and tea, one for soups, and one for wines. With flavors ranging from sweet to savory, we really feel like we’re on the right track. We seek to strongly support organic living and locally-focused, globally aware initiatives. Whenever possible, we use locally-grown, earth conscious and/or small producer ingredients.

Bliss Out Biscotti are presently available at several locations around the area including Weisinger’s & Paschal Wineries and Key of C & Case Coffee. We also have the capacity to create custom flavors to pair with your restaurant’s signature dish or your vineyard’s prized Pinot. For more information, pricing, etc. contact us at: contact@blissoutbiscotti.com. While our website—like our business—is a work in progress, we have a temporary web presence at: www.myspace.com/blissoutbiscotti.

Finding Your Dream Sequence
on 03/19/07 02:15 PM

Many if not most people believe that our dreams provide insights into our waking lives. People all around the world spend years interpreting their meanings; trying to decipher the hidden messages. Others, like Ashland’s own Sarah Noffke, realize that the meaning behind the dreams is often much less important than the implicit effect it has on the dreamer.

Noffke is author of Dream Sequence, a collection of poetry chronicling her thoughts and dreams over more than one decade of her life. Her poems focus on everything from Love to Nightmares, from Chaos to Hope and from Catalysts for Change to Replenishment of all that is good and right. While each poem stands alone in merit, reading the book from front to back takes the reader on a literal Dream Sequence through the creative—and often personal—mind of the author. Her words are honest, feminine and often at unexpected times, acutely relevant.

Originally from Dallas, Texas, Noffke relocated to the Cedar Creek Lake area in East Texas. It was in this scenic place that she began writing poetry at the age of 12. She returned to Dallas to pursue both her educational and professional goals, but never lost the unconscious pull of the space in between twilight and sunrise. After completing her Masters in Management degree, she recently relocated to Ashland with her husband. Noffke shares the feelings that most people have about Ashland; it draws you in, provides inspiration and support and exudes the potential for limitless possibilities.

When not searching her dreamland for waking parallels, she is presently working on the final chapter of her first full-length novel, tentatively titled, One Day Hill. Her poetry is a reflection of her past, present and future dreams. Furthermore, it tells the story of human emotion through the eyes of a child, girl and woman. Dream Sequence is available through Powells.com, Amazon, Barnes and Noble, by special order through your local bookseller or directly from the author (ISBN: 1-4241-4424-8). You may contact her at: sarah@sarahnoffke.com. For more information or to schedule a book reading/signing for your store or organization, visit: www.sarahnoffke.com.
