Where do you see the city in 10, 20 years?
on 10/09/08 03:55 PM Published by Tom_Frantz
I traveled around the world twenty years ago and I never saw such a place as this... In ten or twenty years I want to say the same thing I am saying now, " "Ashland is a lovely and simple place that accepts many different types of people and their beliefs,  and has a beautiful park for young and old,a great place to live and visit, and it has good clean water and its safe for our children's children."

Well, we may get the 'space' to take advantage of our opportunities or external events may greatly limit what we can do.  I'll just comment on the former scenario.  I imagine Ashland in ten years as a more vibrant and creative city than it is now.  I see OSF as even more of a national treasure because of the success of its new leadership and especially the American plays project (commissioning 37 new plays in American history).  And I see this latter theme dove-tailing with A... It’s not how I see the city in the future, but rather how the citizens see it.  What Ashland needs is to revisit and renew its vision for itself.  Through extensive and diverse involvement with the entire community, I will use all the tools for community visioning necessary, including identifying community issues and analyzing emerging trends, articulating core community values, creating a vision statement and developing strategic action plans in an effort to make this a reality.&nbs... I see Ashland as a thriving urban center set into the backdrop of the Southern Cascades and Siskiyous. A place that is livable, equitable, and sustainable. A vibrant community filled with culture, and a model of a sustainable city; a place to work, to play, to raise families, to grow up, or spend our later years. People will continue to travel here to take in our theatre, our forests, experience our restaurants with some of the cleanest, healthiest, best tasting, locally grown food available, to... To quote from the national political scene, “I have hope.”  I love this community and I have put the majority of my adult life into trying to respect its past and work to make its future better for us all.  I think we have huge opportunities here, from our beautiful setting, a still vibrant economy, to our intelligent and interested citizenry, all of whom want only what is best for the community.  We need to work with each other, not against each other to make sure that Ashlan...
