Well...I'm a fan of Netflix...and because you can rent for so cheaply, it doesn't matter if you find a gold nugget in each DVD....which is a good thing! Because, I Am Legend, left me with a blank stare at the screen as the credits rolled...
One word to sum it up: "Meh"
It wasn't God Awful, but it wasn't my favorite either.. and I tend to watch out of the box movies for my age/gender/marital status.
What I DID like:
-The City Scapes, set design. Great use of the alone feeling.
-The Dog, Sam was beautiful.
-The basic concept of the problem and how it was caused.
-On a whole, I like Will Smith as an actor, and most of this movie was OK..but it just didn't come together well.
What I didn't like:
-The over-animation of the infected zombies and animals. If it was SUPPOSED to be surreal great! But this was supposed to be a realistic look at what could happen in a couple of years with a runaway virus. Way over-animated for the style of movie. Signs had much more realism without showing half has much, and was scarier to boot, even without the blood and guts
-The Ending was just lacking...there would have been so many more satisfying ways to end this movie.
-The forced integration of Bob Marley into the theme over half way through the film. Why so late if it was so important.
-It felt very edited...like there was a good half hour of storyline that we missed somewhere in the middle.
So in conclusion...Go ahead and watch it if you want...It's OK as a netflix rental. But if you want to go away feeling like you watched a good movie...skip it.
It felt about as cohesive as a mix of "Dawn of the Dead" and "The Postman" can feel without using duct tape.
I need a popcorn emoticon....
But if I had one, I'd give it two golden popcorns out of five.
