...sigh....I love movies that I can get lost in...

...sigh....I love laughing out loud in the theater

...sigh....I love sweet sappy love stories that aren't cliche...

...sigh....I love wiping a tear away that I didn't expect....

...sigh....I love Wall-e...Have I said that yet? No? Well consider it said.

I'd heard good things about Disney Pixar's new animated movie, Wall-e: That it wasn't a typical "kid's" movie, that it was a beautiful funny blend of character, scenery, atmosphere and story. With a sweet innoncence, a surprisingly objective commentary on the consumerist and troubling trends of corporate monopolization of business and enough heart string plucking and laughter to fill the void in anyone's jaded soul, this movie even moved my skeptical stoic husband to say...."It's the best I've seen in a long time"

The story (as if you haven't already heard) starts with Wall-e a little robot who's not much more than a glorified compactor, left alone on a trash strewn destroyed earth. The cities are full of leftover excess, and refuse of a population obviously intent on consuming every available resource. With about the first 40 minutes almost entirely free of dialogue, the movie follows Wall-e in his daily routine of compacting trash, and collecting bits of human culture, the same way he's done for over 700 years. Then Eva comes into his life....sleek.....streamlined...graceful... gorgeous blue eyes... and the quickest quick-draw in the galaxy.

Wall-e was literally head over heels...and his sweet devotion to his new love is more than any machine has a right to feel.  His emotions and reactions are almost more human than human. The poor little guy has spent his whole life around garbage..he's beat up, repaired, patched, dented and not the prettiest thing on the block...but he's true, hardworking, devoted, and with a sweet disposition. (I couldn't ask for more in a man!)

When Eva is picked up by the space ship she came on..Wall-e can't bear to see her go, and hitches a ride on the space ship just to make sure she's alright. This flight into the unknown will change the destiny of not only Wall-e, and Eva..but also the future of the whole human race.

Wall-e is a great movie, go see it, and own it after it's out on DVD.....I think it ranks right up there with the greatness that was E.T. in regard to the ability of the story to draw in the audience, the characters to truly speak, the sincerity of emotion, and the cheering whether audible or not for our hero of the day!

I give Wall-e five out of five Golden Popcorns!

(rare praise indeed)

Who me?
