Hi everyone....
Haven't heard much from Mel recently, so I e-mailed her sister..and here's what I heard:
hi jody~
mel is doing well, just really tired and uncomfortable now that she is done with her second series of chemo (dr says its normal). She has two weeks off and then starts her third round. Just trying to keep her eating and pumping her full of protien to keep up her immune system. Many thanks to all who have been helping out and doing all of this for her i know that you are busy and this probably takes much of your free time. sorry if it takes awhile to answer emails but now that summer is in full swing I am working doubles and triples most days so don't get to my email too often.
hope all is well with you. thanks a million!

Then a couple days later the patient herself called me, She's got a couple weeks off before she starts her third round of chemo. And from what she says the second round, really knocked her down for a bit. But she still has all her hair! So we won't need to knit any beanies for while longer. :-) Also I asked Mel if she had an idea on how well the benefit account has been doing for her. And she said it has been a life boat,(Which is so wonderful to hear). She said that before we deposited the Yard sale money..there was probably around $1500 in donations to the account! WOW!! What a wonderful response and blessing. This money has allowed her to buy gas for going back and forth to the doctor. It paid her rent, and power bills. Fortunately Mel has now become officially disabled according to Social Security and will be eligible for Medicaid for her medical bills. So that's good news! Also the landlord of her apartment complex has offered Mel and her boys a couple of months FREE rent! So another blessing!
She still has some considerable pain and general discomfort from the chemotherapy and advancing growth of the cancer itself. She's been eating little bits of high calorie, high nutrition food as she can. And the doctors are not in any hurry for surgery until she's done with chemo.
We'll keep our hopes high and thoughts positive and hope and pray that this 3rd round does the trick!
Mel said she appreciates all the offers of food, but that she can't use it. However her two strapping sons, one in college and the other looking for summer work are always voracious, and scrounging around in the cupboards. So if anyone wants to offer groceries or casseroles..they will not go uneaten!! :-)
Thanks to everyone, and best regards
