I briskly rubbed my palms in anticipation of what was shapin’up to be a memorable evening: my dear friend Simone, the Hottie that she is,was turning heads at the bar in her red dress when I arrived. I enlisted herto give me a quick tour since she knew her way around the place.

Fridays/Saturdays at Chadwick’s is Comedy Night and usuallyproduces a good turnout, so we strategized and showed up a smidge early. (Showtime8pm, $5 cover). Comedy is followed byKaraoke at approximately 10pm.

You already know the location, silly…it’s the sizable hotel that’slookin right at ya as you exit I-5 at Hwy 62 (Exit 30)…after you’ve turnedright headed for Costco/Crater Lake/Kaleidoscope Pizza-enuf already, it’s onyour left. The address is 2300 Biddle Road.(So is it me, or did that team of rocket scientists who over-engineered thatwhole interchange have an L.A. thinggoin on!?)

We chose a table not too close to the stage (I figured theguy next to the Hottie in the red dress was sure to draw some fire from acouple of male stand-up comedians!) and soaked in the sports bar scene…therewere many different ball games on several different screens.

Simone is a wine enthusiast par excellence and I am a beersnob, so we jumped into the menus immediately. After verrry carefulconsideration, she selected the Girardet Baco Noir, which we both enjoyedpronouncing with great accuracy. I ordered a pint from a microbrewer I hadnever heard of: Southern Oregon Brewing Company (I found the Porter slightly morememorable than the IPA).

We gnoshed on the flavorful house sourdough and raised atoast to our health & wellbeing. I then asked the obvious: could Americaat the end of the Bush era possiblyelect another Republican president?! She laughed it off & changed thesubject: “Try this crisp house salad with Rogue Creamery Bleu Cheese dressing”and Wow she was right, it was a much better conversation piece. “Is that theone the French judges gave Best Of Show?” I inquired. “Yer darn’ tootin” she shotback, with her Fargo, Minnesotaaccent.

Then came the goods. Our friendly waitress brought Simone aNY Strip steak with garlic mashed potatoes, cooked perfectly to order. She shotme a grin with one eyebrow raised

(MAN I wanna learn how to do that!) and then watched me landthe catch du jour: coconut encrusted yellow fin tuna in a sweet bell peppermarinade. The steak was like buttah, with some tasty mushrooms. The tuna was(forgive me) Off the Hook! The coconut crust was just delicious, and kept pacewith the sweet bell pepper marinade in perfect harmony. The portions weregenerous, so bring your appetite.

The opening host comedian Karl Lee had us laughing hard realquick. He was followed by Eric Miller, then by the headliner Kermet Apio, whohad us in stitches many times.

His self deprecating jokes were great: “Who names their kidafter a little green bug-eyed frog? With a really weird voice, no less”.

I am happy to say, Chadwick's Pub surpassed my expectations.Kudos to the kitchen. We raise two glasses with thumbs up!
