The Devil Makes Three will perform live at Stillwater on Sunday September 28 at 1951 Highway 66 (across from NAPA Auto Parts) in Ashland Oregon. The Mighty Lonesomes from Ashland will open the show at 9pm.

The Devil Makes Three has spent the past five years mixing styles from the ragtime and country music of the twenties and thirties to the rock and roll and punk music of their adolescence, pushing the boundaries of acoustic music in the Pacific Northwest since they arrived from their native Vermont in 2002.  Based in Davis, CA, this trio of Pete Bernhard (vocals/guitar), Cooper McBean (guitar/banjo/vocals) and Lucia Turino (upright bass) has built a passionate fan base around their boisterous live performances.

Describing The Devil Makes Three’s music proves to be as difficult as describing their fans, who range from hippies to hipsters, punk rockers to bikers, and pretty much everything in between. With the goal of being “an acoustic band but to play our shows like a rock show,” the band changed notions of what acoustic music could be.

The Devil Makes Three has poured tremendous effort into their live performance and have developed a strong, devoted following. While the trio’s recordings highlight melody, emotion and thoughtful lyrics, their live performances turn up the tempo and energy. Shows typically hover around the two-hour mark, and create an all-out, raucous dance party vibe.

With a slightly punky perspective on vintage American blues, The Devil Makes Three is a breath of fresh musical air. Laced with elements of ragtime, country, folk and rockabilly, the critically praised, drummer-less trio brings forth a genuine approach to acoustic music that is deeply steeped in rhythm. With a sound that is pleasingly dissimilar to most other bands in modern music, early critical praise of its self-produced recording has earned comparisons to the likes of The Violent Femmes, Steve Earle and The White Stripes.

The show will open at 9pm with The Mighty Lonesomes before The Devil Makes Three take the stage. For tickets ($15 in Advance and $20 at the Door) and information please call Stillwater at 541.482.6113 or visit www.stillwaterashland.com.
