Entries stillavailable for fun and exciting annual event
CENTRALPOINT, OREGON (September 16, 2008) — Expect to see wild and bare poundingfeet, pulverized grapes, and a constant flow of fresh juice at the popular andentertaining annual Grape Stomp, sponsored by Del Rio Vineyards. The Stomptakes place at the 2008 Jackson County Harvest Fair, Saturday and Sunday,September 27 and 28, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., at the Jackson County Fairgrounds & Expo Park in Central Point.
Entriesare still available for the two-person event, closing when all heats are full.Applications are available at the fair office, (541) 774-8270, or online at www.jcfairgrounds.com. Once on thesite, click on “2008 Harvest Fair Forms” and then “HarvestFair Grape Stomp Entry Form.”
Preliminary heats are at noon,2 p.m. and 4 p.m. on Saturday, and noon and 2 p.m. on Sunday. Winners of eachheat return for the championship showdown at 4 p.m. Sunday.
Eachteam consists of a stomper and a helper, who keeps the screen clean and directsjuice into gallon jugs. In the preliminaries, contestants crush approximately30 pounds of grapes until one jug is filled, or until the amount of juice afterthree minutes of stomping is determined. In the finals, contestants crush about60 pounds of grapes for five minutes with two jugs to be filled.
Other highlights of the Harvest Festival include:draft horse pull competition; Southern Oregon Brewfest; Chili Cook-Off;Australian Shepherd-sanctioned stock dog trials (doesn’t have to be anAustralian Shepherd to enter); dog eye and ear clinics (please keep your dog ona leash); Dave Nourie BMXperformances; the Jackson County Stockmen’s Club Calf Sale and HeiferFuturity; Cargill Fitting Clinic by Frank Ward; Dancing Morgans trick horses;Wild Rogue Pro Rodeo Drill Team; free paintball competition; growers marketwith fruits and vegetables; Dutch oven cooking; Annie the Clown; 4H ScavengerHunt; pumpkin carving and painting; hot rod and custom car show; and over 500arts and crafts open entries. Fairgoers can also enjoy a variety of wine andfood, including international food favorites, Cajun, Mexican, Asian, Italian,American and bakery favorites. A live music festival will be held on theHarvest Fair Stage throughout the weekend, featuring acts that include JasonJohnston, the Rhythm Kings and Rogue Suspects.
Gateadmission is $6 for adults and free for kids 12 and under; parking is alsofree.
