Have you ever wanted to go out to dinner but just couldn't decide what you had a taste for? Or gone to a particular restaurant only to discover, once you arrived, that their menu just didn't do it for you that night? This was exactly the experience my friend and I had Saturday evening. So we kept on walking...then it hit me. Dragonfly! It has ALWAYS been the perfect recipe (pardon the pun) for lunch or dinner when I just couldn't figure out what I wanted.
I had just heard that chef and owner Neil Clooney had won Oregon's Iron Skillet award just last week. WOW!! THAT is a big deal, let me tell you!! I was thrilled to see him there as we walked in to their charming entryway. I"m so glad I was able to give him congratulations in person! He and his wife Dee have done such a marvelous job creating their dream that I could eat there every day. Really.
Anyway, we sat down and began to salivate over the menu. Latin Asian Fusion. Don't ask me what it means; I'm sadly not a foodie. But I do love good food and can appreciate unique, complex flavors as well as the next person. I tend to have my favorites everywhere I go, and Dragonfly is no exception. However, I must say that this is one place where I have no problem stretching out of my comfort zone and ordering, almost blindly, truly anything on the menu.
But being a creature of habit, and imagining the mouth-watering taste treat to come, I ordered the Buddha Bowl. THAT's what I could eat every day. Truly. My girlfriend ordered the Ahi Tuna plate and, being a lover of sushi, was pleasantly surprised to discover it came sushi-style (that is, raw). Add to that the crispy pastry-like wafers, carefully blended sauces and whatever else was on her plate, and she was speechless as she savored her meal.
If you've never had the Buddha Bowl you have a real treat to look forward to. The coconut based soup is filled with noodles, beef (in my choice that night), veggies, and more. But it's the indescribable flavor that gets me every time. It is so full, round and rich that every bite is a deep pleasure. It's one of the true delights in my life.
Our server, Nathan, was attentive, courteous and prompt without being intrusive. Their well-trained staff rivals the service at The Phoenix! Please do yourself a favor and treat yourself to a breakfast, lunch or dinner at Dragonfly. Pronto. You'll thank me. Truly.
