Dear Friends,
I have heavy news....
Our friend Mel Canete died peacefully yesterday at Ashland Hospice with her family around her. She has endured much pain from the cancers that she was living with, and now is free from the ailing body she was prisoner to these last few months. The family will not be having a service, and as it was Mel's wish not to put her family through a public spectacle.. Because of her wish for privacy, I will honor that as well, and not be organizing any special memorial services. They have also requested that please no flowers be sent. However cards, notes and letters are welcome, as her kids would love to know what many of you thought of Mel, and may be sent to: 835 Blaine St. Ashland, OR 97520.
We are all grieving, but like Mel would want, and her sister Macy, reassured me....Mel wasn't much for drama or tears,...she was much more into Reeses Peanut butter cups, laughter and a dark, twisted joke every now and then. If any of you have a picture (yah right...the woman was camera-phobic) or specific memory of Mel.. I would be much appreciative of an e-mail, I'd like to put together something for remembrance in honor of her, for the family.
In lieu of flowers, I know the family would appreciate any donations made to the Mel Canete Medical Fund, as it would help alleviate some of the financial burden of her final expenses.
Thank you all for your support and caring for Mel. Through her employment at the Daily Tidings, McDonalds, Wendy's, Lithia Stationers and The Main Source...she's touched and enriched so many lives here in Ashland..her adopted hometown.
We wish you safe journey Mel...and we'll see you on the other side!
With love to you all, Jody
