On Thursday, August 21st at 7:30 p.m. Genine Bar El will perform her original one woman show entitled “Rebirthing the Divine: A Journey to Kabbalah.” Bar El takes audiences on a spiritual and emotional journey as she pursues a deeper connection to herself and her heritage. Born in New York City, the eldest daughter of Holocaust survivors, Bar El now resides in Israel with her husband Rony and their three children. After graduating magna c#$ laude and Phi Beta Kappa from Columbia University, Genine earned a Masters Degree in Middle Eastern Studies from N.Y.U. while working in the Press and Cultural divisions at the Israeli Consulate. After making Aliya and working at the Cameri Theater of Tel Aviv, Genine journeyed to India where she met her Israeli husband, Rony. Today they work together in their catering business, hosting groups from around the world in their historic home in the old city of Tsfat. Through story-telling and song, the audience travels with Genine on a poignant, touching and often humorous passage from Jewish American Princess to “woman of valor.” Guided and inspired by Kabbalah, the wisdom of Jewish mysticism, Genine shares her insights as well as her story, set against a backdrop of the Holocaust, contemporary Israel, Buddhist meditation retreats, the spiritual life of Tsfat, Israel and the horror of war which unsettled the Galilee in the summer of 2006. Rabbi David Zaslow says, "This is a profound show - hilarious and deeply touching. Genine is a great comedian and yet under the schtick there is a brilliant message that we all need to hear."
